Here we go again...

Not pregnant!

Potty training.

I think this marks 18 months since the first time we attempted potty training Carson. Each regression is harder than the last and each time we throw in the towel getting him back to it is worse. I'm not entirely sure why I'm trying again, he's even more resistant than last time. He cares all of 0% if he's wet or dirty. He'd sit in a poop diaper all day if I didn't insist on changing him.

I'm not entirely sure he won't be 4 years old and still in diapers. It makes me feel like a failure. I know I would have judged myself HARD before having kids. This is karma's payback for Chris and I judging his cousins 4 year old for not being potty trained.

I'm going to keep a PTing journal for 3 weeks ("they" say it takes 3 weeks to fully train. I call total bullshit)

Hopefully I don't go bald.

  1. I can tell you from experience that it can easily take more than 3 weeks to potty train! It depends on the kids, the parents, what is going on in everyone's lives, etc. Potty training is a pain (we'll be starting it soon with my son), but just keep at it and try to keep your sanity! Beware of any plan that is like "1 day potty training" or "Potty training in 3 days" or any other x-amount of time. Just take it easy and do what you can!

    1. Okay, so how can you tell the difference between not being ready and just taking a while. Because we were super consistent with undies and scheduled potty times from 2-2 1/2 and he was having accidents 6-7 times a day. So easily peeing/pooping on the floor more than going in the toilet. So we stopped, but we did it for 6 months. Then we picked back up after his 3rd birthday after a couple failed attempts. We moved and he regressed (which is fine!) then after the holidays we tried again, and he pooped twice on the potty and was peeing great, and then he flat out decided "I'm going to wear diapers I don't want to be a big boy"

We've done, MM's, stickers, small toys, huge bribes like (bikes, getting to have his power wheel at home instead of at grammas)
Currently there is a thomas DVD sitting in the bathroom if he is consistent the rest of this week he can have it.

Blah. I just don't know what to do.

  2. I'm not looking forward to potty training... I'm looking forward to TRAINED. A friend of mine has her son fully potty trained at 18 months. It is amazing. But, she was literally bringing him to the bathroom EVERY 20-30 minutes. I couldn't do it... so, I am waiting til he tells me he is ready. We'll see how it goes. Good luck... I look forward to reading about your experience and how it goes!

    1. I'm pretty sure its going to look something like this "9am peed on floor, 12 pm peed in toilet, 1pm shit on carpet, 3pm started drinking...."

  4. This is gonna sound odd, but don't feel like a failure. I'll use...uh...me as an example. I wasn't fully potty-trained until I was four. Didn't learn to read until I was seven.

I can sincerely say I've since mastered both. It'll click with your kid, eventually.

Either that, or he will leave blog comments about his urinary adventures on other peoples blogs thirty years hence.

    Win-win.

  5. We tried a few weeks back and he wasn't feeling it. We're gonna shoot for this summer when we can let him run around pantless.
